Day 3

My awesome sister, Mindy, watched Zoey today while Neil and I went out to see some sites.

We began with a tour of the White House. They don't allow hardly anything on the tour and without a stroller and someone to watch all the stuff, our entire day was spent with out camera or purse or other normal stuff we'd take. We only have a few camera phone pics of the day.

It was a really cool place to visit! The security there is a bit flabbergasting, which is understanding. The rooms, furniture, colors, and portraits are exquisite.

It was really neat to see the actual original painting of George Washington that Dolley Madison, first lady at the time, saved when the British started the White House on fire in 1812. Cool place. This is Neil at the back door.


We also went to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing where they make dollar bills. What an interesting process they go through to do that. We saw a giant stack of $20 dollar note pages on a cart that totaled $6.4 million dollars that was getting ready to be cut.

If you can't tell, that is 1 million dollars in 10 dollar bills in that case. :)


We then spent the afternoon at the Holocaust Museum. Wo. I don't know that I breathed very much the whole time. It is one of the most sobering, depressing and eye opening things I have ever seen.

The shoes are what got to me the most. They have two huge corridors with the actual dirty, stinky, worn out shoes the people wore at the concentration camps. That's what stood out to me most, but of course there are a ton of other things that kept us busy, and kept me wiping my eyes.
