We spent a few days in Yuma, AZ for a gig. We noticed trailer after trailer full of four wheelers with paddle tires! We knew that Sand Dunes were near. Suddenly we were on a quest to find them and discovered they were only 18 miles away! Neil was overjoyed.
We ended up spending just 2 short hours at the Imperial Sand Dunes in California with 3 of the Jensen kids in the Jeep. We only got stuck twice!
Our mission was to find the Mexico border fence that has always seemed so mythical. Eventually we saw what appeared to be a shadow on the horizon but sure enough there were miles and miles of the nicest border fence we've ever seen! We stuck our arms and feet through the fence and touched Mexico!
We were only able to spend a few hours at the dunes but we really enjoyed ourselves and it made us homesick for our toys. But for two people addicted to sand it was the quick fix we needed. We will definitely be planning a winter trip here in the future.
I told you you would like Yuma...it really wasn't that bad growing up there with the Dunes and the River to play at. I love that heart picture in the sand...way cool! We miss you guys...counting down till you come home!

ReplyDeleteI was reading my sand sport mag. They said you are not allowed to be within 100 ft of that fence in order to avoid "cross border violence". The fence was just completed in DEC of '08. It is a "floating" fence which allows border patrol to adjust it's height according to sand conditions.
